About the Role
Rare Candy is revolutionizing the trading-card industry with an AI-powered community marketplace. We are seeking a versatile individual to own the entire product and design arc, from customer research to engineering handoff. This is a unique opportunity to be the first full-time product and design hire, shaping the future of a fast-growing, profitable company and defining how modern AI-era product teams are built.
Responsibilities
- Own product end to end: from customer research and data to problem framing, to spec, to design, to high-fidelity prototype, to testing, to engineering handoff.
- Prototype to validate, not to ship, using high-fidelity, interactive prototypes in Figma, Figma Make, Cursor, or similar tools.
- Stay close to the customer and the numbers, balancing qualitative research and quantitative data.
- Partner with the CEO daily on framing key decisions, strategy, building prototypes, and working through feedback.
- Collaborate cleanly with engineering on handoff and build.
- Contract design support is available when needed.
- Build the product muscle: establish just enough process to ship reliably and fast.
- Grow into the product leader of this company.
Requirements
- 6 to 10 years of experience shipping high-quality consumer products.
- Track record of high-impact work in high-velocity environments, ideally in an early-stage startup.
- Demonstrated ownership and impact are valued over exact years or titles.
- Ability to flex into product management, UX, and design.
- Strong intuitive sense of user needs and polished, delightful product.
- Fast and fluent with AI-powered prototyping tools (Figma, Claude Design, Cursor, etc.).
- Deeply customer-oriented and comfortable with data.
- Ability to conduct research, read a funnel, and balance customer needs against business needs.
- Operate with high agency and a bias to action.
- Take responsibility for your own growth and leverage.
- Move decisively and orient relentlessly toward impact.
- High-trust, low-ego partner.
- Energized by working closely with a hands-on founder.
- True trading-card and collectibles nerd: collect, play, or have real fluency in the hobby.
- Ability to share two or three products personally owned from problem framing through shipped impact or tested prototype.
- Ability to share portfolio links that show product thinking and UX or design craft.
- Ability to share one spec, prototype, research synthesis, or handoff artifact that made engineering faster or clearer.
- Ability to identify the biggest product opportunity to improve versus the market.
- Ability to prove real trading-card fluency, including what is collected or played, favorite era, set, card, or collector niche, and a sharp take on where the hobby is going.
