About the Role
Shimmick is seeking an experienced Field Engineer to support a Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Project in Austin, Texas. Shimmick is a dynamic infrastructure builder with over 100 years of expertise, known for innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit, holding market leadership in water resources, sustainable transportation, and complex electrical construction.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to field crews, ensuring accurate interpretation of drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Oversee layout, surveying, and grade control to maintain project accuracy.
- Manage and implement construction methodologies and best practices in collaboration with the superintendent and project team.
- Support superintendent in day-to-day tasks.
- Manage subcontractors scopes to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate and interface with inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Manage assigned Force Account work.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure work meets quality standards and project specifications.
- Document and resolve non-conformances with the Quality Control/Project team.
- Assist in safety audits and enforce compliance with OSHA and Shimmick safety policies.
- Promote a safety-first culture by proactively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
- Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining project schedules.
- Track material quantities, labor hours, and equipment utilization to support cost control efforts.
- Identify and help resolve potential project delays or budget overruns.
- Work closely with the Project Team to facilitate smooth execution.
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and as-built documentation.
- Participate in daily and weekly construction meetings to discuss project progress and challenges.
- Serve as a liaison between the field and office, ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution.
- Utilize construction management software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Procore, Microsoft Office Packages, CMiC.
- Maintain organized field records and documentation for closeout and future reference.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree + 4 years of relevant heavy civil experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- 5+ years experience in heavy civil construction with an understanding of construction methods, means, and materials.
- Experience in waste water/water treatment plants, mechanical, and/or process piping.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments.
