About the Role
This facilities management position focuses on creating a welcoming and safe environment for Residents. The Environmental Service Manager will organize and oversee staffing and supplies for maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry operations, ensuring compliance with LTC legislation and a safe environment for all.
Responsibilities
- Collaborated with leadership to identify and prioritize facilities management tasks.
- Managed the daily operation of critical building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire and life safety, and BAS/BMS.
- Performed routine repairs, servicing, and inspections of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds.
- Communicated maintenance repair needs to the Corporate Director of Environmental Services.
- Planned and implemented work routines for housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance.
- Participated in decision-making related to Home operations, focusing on Team Member and Resident health and safety.
- Established and followed preventative maintenance schedules and completed minor repairs.
- Used interpersonal skills to lead and support a diverse team.
- Applied financial literacy skills to manage departmental budgets.
- Referenced PIDAC and/or local Public Health guidance for cleaning best practices and regulatory updates.
- Coordinated hiring and orientation of new Team Members, monitored performance, and led in-service education and departmental meetings.
- Carried out selection, promotion, transfer, and termination activities.
- Supported the Maintenance Department by providing vacation coverage as a working manager.
- Responded to maintenance call-ins, including after-hours issues.
- Worked collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinated and led the Home-wide Health and Safety Program.
Requirements
- Experience in a managerial position demonstrating leadership in a healthcare setting managing people, budgets, and legislative obligations.
- Experience in maintenance related work preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices related to housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the Fixing Long Term Care Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, Ministry of Long-Term Care, and other relevant legislation.
- OH&S level I & II certification, management representative.
