About the Role
Blackstone Energy Services is seeking a Senior Director, Operations to manage projects, ensure compliance with legal and code requirements, and maintain high health and safety standards. This role involves leading execution teams, managing project schedules and budgets, and fostering strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Provide input on strategy, vendor/partner selection, scope determination, value engineering, and risk assessment.
- Supervise, design, engineer, install, start-up, and commission central utility plant equipment, HVAC systems, building automation, renewables, and on-site generation.
- Act as the primary on-site leader and customer representative for execution teams.
- Develop project schedules, resource plans, and manage on-time, on-budget outcomes.
- Ensure all work complies with provincial, local, and federal legal and code requirements.
- Adhere to and enforce health and safety standards for staff and subcontractors.
- Follow project management procedures and processes, providing continuous improvement input.
- Evaluate contractual scope of work and client requirements, performing cost estimates and negotiating changes.
- Review and interpret contract Terms and Conditions, insurances, and bonding requirements.
- Analyze financial reporting and project schedules to address potential issues.
- Communicate project progress, issues, and financial status to management.
- Manage risks and establish project recovery plans.
- Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontract agreements and terms to suppliers and trades.
- Ensure project document controls follow contract requirements and company standards.
- Oversee project construction for compliance with specifications, codes, and installation standards.
- Manage the selection, ordering, and delivery schedule of materials.
- Develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Manage job progress meetings and ensure subcontractor understanding of expectations.
- Coordinate resource allocation for assigned projects.
- Ensure engineering and commissioning comply with federal, provincial, and municipal codes and standards.
- Develop a continuous improvement program for project solutions and commissioning.
- Coordinate customer training.
- Self-perform cost estimating, project scheduling, and project management.
- Support strategic corporate and subsidiary company initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Licensed P. Eng (ON) required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- CEM designation an asset.
- IHSA - Supervision certificate.
- Knowledge and experience with Procore an asset.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license.
- Specific experience in Healthcare and Higher Education work environments is an asset.
- Performance Contracting/ESCo experience an asset.
- 10+ years of Project Management experience in the built environment with projects including Energy Performance Contract project management, Mechanical / Plumbing Retrofits, HVAC controls, renewables, and general construction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and foster cohesive teamwork.
- Professional presence with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal and influencing skills.
- Critical persuasion and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate technical solutions to a non-technical audience.
- Proficient in Project Management software (MS Project) and financial accounting.
- Comfort and capability using MS Office tools.
