About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Special Counsel to join the Asbestos & Dust Diseases team in Brisbane or Sydney. This full-time, permanent role offers the chance to manage your own practice, deliver high-quality work, and continuously expand your skill set while striving for fair client outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Manage your own practice, producing high quality work for clients.
- Maintain a practical and commercial focus.
- Meet with potential clients and use technical knowledge to strive for fair outcomes.
- Foster and manage relationships with referrers and other external parties.
- Grow the practice.
- Provide support and mentoring to junior legal staff.
- Supervise and train others, including paralegals and junior lawyers.
- Work with a team to prepare matters for mediation and hearing.
- Draft court documents, letters of advice, and conduct complex legal research in novel and unfamiliar areas of law.
Requirements
- 7+ years post admission experience.
- Experience working within a personal injuries’ litigation environment with a background in dust diseases matters.
- Alternatively, high quality workers’ compensation experience in either QLD or NSW with a desire to specialise in dust diseases claims will be considered.
- Ability to supervise and train others, including paralegals and junior lawyers.
- Proven leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience providing high level client service.
- Display empathy and compassion for clients.
- Ability to think creatively to find legal and advocacy solutions for clients.
- Experience in working with a team to prepare matters for mediation and hearing.
- Capability to draft court documents, letters of advice and conduct complex legal research in novel and unfamiliar areas of law.
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo background checks.
