About the Role
The E-FI Lead Java Developer will design, develop, and maintain high-performance electronic US Treasury/Rates trading systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in Java and a solid understanding of Fixed Income markets to deliver reliable, scalable, and low-latency solutions supporting the bank’s trading and risk management objectives. You will collaborate with traders, business analysts, and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance trading capabilities, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to the development team, ensuring best practices in software design, coding standards, and architectural decisions.
- Oversee and be hands-on for the end-to-end delivery of robust, scalable, and low-latency eTrading solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with traders, business analysts, product owners, and other technology teams to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Drive a culture of code excellence through regular code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration, ensuring maintainability and reliability.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Ensure all solutions comply with internal risk management policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the resolution of high-impact production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes to prevent recurrence.
- Contribute to project planning, estimation, and resource allocation to ensure timely and successful delivery of initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with traders to understand business requirements, trading strategies, and operational needs.
- Partner with product managers to prioritize features, align technology solutions with business goals, and deliver value to clients.
- Work with business analysts to clarify requirements, assess feasibility, and translate business needs into technical specifications.
- Coordinate with risk management and compliance teams to ensure all solutions adhere to internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Engage with QA teams to develop and execute comprehensive testing strategies, ensuring system reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to optimize deployment pipelines, automate processes, and ensure system scalability and resilience.
- Work with production support and operations teams to manage incident resolution, monitor system health, and implement improvements.
- Partner with other technology groups to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
- Lead development streams of work and interact with global team members.
- Own and be accountable for various streams of work from feature development, enhancements to production fix.
- Inform and solicit feedback for design and architecture, incorporating resiliency and high availability.
- Interface regularly with technology and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Java, including multi-threading, collections, and concurrency.
- Experience developing, maintaining, or supporting electronic foreign exchange (E-FI) trading platforms.
- Familiarity with FIX protocol, MQ, JMS, or similar messaging solutions.
- Experience with RESTful and/or SOAP web services.
- Understanding of techniques for minimizing latency in trading applications.
- Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and related technologies.
- Strong SQL skills; experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL solutions.
- Understanding of distributed computing concepts and technologies (e.g., microservices, caching, clustering).
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing tools.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity, Git).
- Solid understanding of Rates products, trading lifecycle, and market conventions.
- Knowledge of order routing, execution, and trade booking flows.
- Familiarity with pre-trade and post-trade risk controls in electronic trading.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with traders, business analysts, and other developers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
- Legally eligible to work at the specified location(s).
- May be asked to complete an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests.
