About the Role
Responsible for processing waste, organizing waste for transportation, and maintaining waste processing areas. This is a critical role as we strive to ensure we are the best in class in environmental practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform all duties required to co-ordinate the Royal York Hotel waste disposal facilities
- Maintain daily log and control of waste removal, tracking weight and bin count of daily waste, bin count of recycled bottles, case count returnable bottles and request containers for other hotel waste material disposal
- Prepare waste for processing or returns to vendors
- Transfer waste bins to Piper Street for pick-up, or transfer waste from hotel/department bins to roll-off bins on Piper St.
- Operate waste processing equipment, including compactors and waste converters, ensuring only appropriate materials are processed
- Clean equipment, including inside equipment
- Maintain the waste disposal area, corridor space, and waste disposal equipment in clean and sanitary condition
- Ensure health & safety in work areas
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Work weekends, holidays and shift work as scheduled
Requirements
- Ability to work shifts
- WHMIS & OHSA
- Excellent guest service
- Physically able to lift and move heavy bins and loads
- Ability and willingness to learn skills necessary to ensure that we are the best in meeting our environmental objectives
- Communicate fluently in the English language
- Constant standing and walking throughout shift
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Constant kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
- Frequent ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
- Environment may necessitate the use of additional PPE including, but not limited to respirators or face masks, safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
