About the Role
The Portfolio Manager leads a high-performing team of Program and Project Managers to ensure the successful delivery of complex, high-impact client programs. This role provides portfolio-level oversight, ensuring consistent governance, operational excellence, stakeholder alignment, and financial accountability. Beyond portfolio leadership, this role serves as a force multiplier, elevating the capabilities of Strategic Program Managers through mentorship, coaching, and the cultivation of a collaborative delivery culture.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end portfolio oversight to ensure project execution aligns with organizational priorities and business outcomes.
- Collaborate with clients to prioritize projects based on business value, resource constraints, and risk.
- Establish and maintain project governance processes and standards.
- Manage resource allocation across the portfolio.
- Build partnerships with client stakeholders, partners, project managers, and engineers to monitor portfolio health.
- Facilitate recurring portfolio status meetings and cross-functional working sessions.
- Maintain clear communication on team workload, performance metrics, and project progress.
- Influence outcomes and resolve friction across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Oversee program managers in developing project plans with attention to scope, schedules, and deadlines.
- Apply structured problem-solving to remove delivery obstacles.
- Identify and mitigate portfolio-level risks, issues, and critical dependencies.
- Manage portfolio-level financial performance, including revenue forecasting, gross profit, utilization, and margin improvement.
- Establish operating rhythms through portfolio, risk, and financial reviews.
- Ensure high-quality client experience through proactive communication and consultative engagement.
- Create and deliver reporting and dashboards for leadership and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous process improvement to maximize team efficiency and project management practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years in program/project management.
- 5+ years leading large, complex, cross-functional IT or infrastructure programs in a Professional Services or Managed Services environment.
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for multimillion-dollar programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure, governance, risk management, and program planning tools.
