About the Role

The Senior Human Resources Generalist, Employee Relations provides guidance to managers and staff on employee relations matters. As a member of the management team, this role focuses on progressive discipline, performance management, workplace investigations, leaves of absence, and disability case management, requiring strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employee relations advice and expertise to managers, staff, and union representatives.
  • Ensure consistent interpretation of collective agreements, agency policies, and relevant laws.
  • Recommend solutions for complex employee relations issues, including coaching and performance improvement plans.
  • Review investigation reports and provide advice to ensure consistent decision-making.
  • Act as counsel for probation reviews, performance improvement plans, terminations, and layoffs.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace harassment, violence, and code of conduct violations.
  • Support management with investigations, including interviews and documentation.
  • Analyze employee relations trends to improve agency processes and develop proactive strategies.
  • Liaise with union representatives to promote a cooperative labour relations climate.
  • Manage leave of absence requests and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Oversee the Long-Term Disability (LTD) process and communication.
  • Lead accommodation and return-to-work meetings.
  • Analyze exit survey and stay interview feedback to identify engagement and retention opportunities.
  • Participate in the DEIR committee to promote inclusion initiatives.
  • Design and deliver training on employee relations, performance management, and investigations.
  • Track and report on investigation trends, grievances, and policy violations.
  • Serve as a back-up for the Senior Human Resources Generalist, Employee Experience.
  • Work evenings and weekends when required.

Requirements

  • University or College diploma/certificate in Human Resources.
  • 5+ years of related human resources generalist or employee relations experience.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a dependable vehicle for travel to agency locations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
