About the Role
Analytics Engineering is central to building data that enables Monzo to make faster, better decisions through a performant, scalable, and high-quality data warehouse. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams, participating in knowledge-sharing sessions to learn about data modeling, banking operations, and effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Build downstream data models from backend services to enhance the Data Warehouse as a competitive advantage.
- Support the creation of robust data models (primarily in BigQuery) for internal reporting, machine learning, and financial/regulatory use cases.
- Optimize the Data Warehouse to reduce complexity and cost.
- Define and manage Data Warehouse best practices, including payload design, logical data modeling, implementation, metadata, and testing standards.
- Establish and implement data standards and working methods across Monzo in collaboration with other teams.
- Apply established best practices and standards to other business areas.
- Monitor and improve data quality within the warehouse by collaborating with colleagues from other disciplines.
- Contribute to the prioritization of data governance issues.
- Own and support contributed pipelines, including expected out-of-hours on-call support.
Requirements
- Enjoy working with cross-functional, fast-moving teams and have a passion for serving small businesses.
- Ability to think strategically about the Business Banking product and how data models can drive insights and customer value.
- Strong passion for data modeling, ETL projects, and Big Data.
- Experience working with data streams from various services (financial, transactional, operational).
- Proficiency in SQL and data modeling, with a solid understanding of Data Warehousing concepts.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, proactively identifying and addressing challenges.
- Experience with dbt, dataform, or similar tooling.
- Familiarity with AGILE ways of working (Kanban, Scrum).
