About the Role

The Director of Building Operations is responsible for Grace Church School’s day-to-day building operations, including facilities, technology, security, maintenance, and school safety. This role requires a driven, resourceful, and innovative individual with the energy and ambition to develop Building Operations to the highest degree of excellence. The candidate will be an independent and strategic thinker, a creative self-starter, and possess excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate emergency repairs and respond to building related emergencies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities, Building Managers, and Facilities Associates.
  • Coordinate daily activities between both buildings to maximize efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex building system issues and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Perform advanced repairs requiring specialized technical knowledge.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot security equipment, access control systems, and building technologies.
  • Work closely with the Technology department on infrastructure projects, network cabling, and AV systems.
  • Integrate building systems (HVAC, lighting, security) with network and technology platforms.
  • Provide technical expertise on the intersection of facilities and technology systems.
  • Ensure security and technology systems are functional and meet school operational requirements.
  • Address compliance issues including fire safety, building code, and life safety deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Manage priority building projects from start to completion.
  • Coordinate work with existing facilities team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
  • Work with vendors and contractors on specialized projects.
  • Partner with IT on cross-functional projects requiring both facilities and technology expertise.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to facilities and technology team members.
  • Participate in facilities and technology team meetings and planning.
  • Maintain organized records of work completed, equipment serviced, and compliance activities.
  • Document building systems, equipment locations, technology infrastructure, and maintenance procedures.
  • Communicate with the Senior Director of Operations on priorities, challenges, and needs.

Requirements

  • Security Guard License (16 hour)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness (F-01, F-03, F-07, D-20, S-95, S-12)
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
