About the Role

Brighte is seeking a legal professional to focus on high-impact, strategically important decisions as the company grows across vendors, partners, products, and regulatory obligations. The role involves managing complex legal matters with real judgment, risk, and commercial consequence.

Responsibilities

  • Own commercial contracting, including vendor, SaaS, supplier, referral, integration, collaboration, and data-sharing agreements.
  • Negotiate commercial contracts directly with counterparties.
  • Ensure vendor terms remain commercial while protecting Brighte's interests.
  • Verify adherence to the Delegation of Authority (DOA) and secure necessary sign-offs before agreement finalization.
  • Own customer-facing credit and product documentation, ensuring currency and compliance with consumer-credit regulation.
  • Coordinate origination system updates with the Product team.
  • Provide timely and practical sign-off on disclosures and marketing within authorized limits.
  • Translate regulatory changes into operational obligations and controls for responsible lending, design and distribution, privacy, and consumer data.
  • Support engagement with regulators and industry bodies.
  • Manage occasional disputes, complaints, or AFCA matters.
  • Develop and improve templates, playbooks, and thresholds to reduce the need for legal intervention.
  • Supervise AI-assisted review processes.
  • Manage legal intake through Jira.
  • Surface clear Management Information (MI) on legal workload.
  • Address the root cause of recurring legal questions.
  • Conduct targeted training to enhance the business's self-sufficiency in legal matters.
  • Utilize AI fluently for drafting, reviewing, summarizing, and triaging legal tasks, while verifying outputs against source material and protecting privileged information.

Requirements

  • Admitted to practice law in NSW, Australia with a current practising certificate.
  • Approximately 2-4 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE).
  • Experience in commercial, tech, data, consumer-credit, or regulatory work.
  • Experience working in or alongside an in-house legal team (secondments accepted).
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, limited supervision, and fast-paced environments.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end negotiation of commercial contracts directly with counterparties.
  • Demonstrated experience in building resources such as playbooks, templates, automation, and training.
  • Fluent and disciplined use of AI, including verification of AI-generated outputs.
