About the Role
Clio is seeking a Software Development Manager to join their Engineering team. This role involves supporting and growing people, ensuring strong team execution, and building solid technical solutions. Development Managers at Clio are highly technical, hands-on, and contribute to coding, designing, and reviewing alongside their team. They coach teams to be technically strong and foster a safe, productive environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the triad to understand business challenges, identify impactful opportunities, and craft team roadmaps.
- Work with the team on designing technical solutions.
- Provide feedback on code reviews and architecture documents to support team members' technical decisions.
- Actively participate as a project contributor through code reviews or shipping code.
- Conduct 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support career growth and development.
- Participate in hiring to grow the engineering team.
- Review code contributed by team members or other Clio developers.
Requirements
- Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, particularly with large-scale SaaS products.
- Strong background in hands-on software development.
- Diverse knowledge base to help teams solve complex technical problems.
- Ability to describe successful projects and lessons learned from failed projects.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent in a fast-paced market.
- Energized by both personal technical work and contributing to team career growth.
- Possess strong opinions that are weakly held, and foster this attitude in others.
- Belief in providing honest, actionable feedback and encouraging team reciprocation.
- Devise roadmaps to guide the team, with adaptability to change.
- Growth mindset regarding process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.
