About the Role

We have a position available for an outstanding and motivated researcher who desires to lead cutting-edge research into the cellular/metabolic/microbial mechanisms of human intestinal disease. This position is within the laboratory of Dr Kylie James at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, specializing in single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and computational pipelines applied to patient biospecimens to understand intestinal inflammation.

Responsibilities

Lead research projects resulting in first or senior authorship of published articles.
Contribute to research outcomes in team and collaborative projects.
Present research nationally and internationally.
Serve as a named Investigator on research proposal submissions.
Supervise and mentor research students and junior research staff.
Collaborate with other research staff to develop research projects.
Perform administrative functions to assist lab operations.
Contribute to Garvan’s organization and management through committee membership and training programs.
Promote research links with external partners.
Participate in scientific societies.
Participate in Garvan promotion and fund-raising events.
Comply with Garvan’s workplace policies, including WHS policies.

Requirements

Possess an MD or PhD degree in immunology, gastroenterology, genomics, or a related field.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
Experience with computational analysis of genomics data, including in R or Python.
Strong project management skills.
Ability to develop, manage, and maintain internal and external working relationships.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well and flexibly in small teams and with diverse stakeholders.
Postdoctoral experience with single-cell RNA sequencing analysis (ideal).
Expertise in immunology or intestinal biology (ideal).
Experience leading and managing teams (desirable).
Experience working with clinical pathology services (desirable).
Strong leadership and mentoring skills (desirable).

Up to $102,500 + 14% superannuation + salary packaging (depending on experience)
