About the Role

As a Senior Category Development Account Executive (SCDAE), you will play a critical role in shaping how categories come to life both in-store and online, partnering directly with Walmart Canada to unlock sustainable growth through best-in-class shelving, item distribution, merchandising and a frictionless Walmart.ca experience. This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of shopper insight, physical retail execution, digital commerce, and automation — all while building trusted relationships with one of Canada’s most important retail partners.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Walmart buyer on product assortment, item distribution, and placement on shelf.
  • Use deep shopper, consumer, and space insights to design tailored shelving planograms that drive category growth and improve the shopping experience in Walmart stores.
  • Advise Walmart Category buyer on assortment productivity, and space optimization, balancing shopper needs with performance and operational realities.
  • Work toward and drive thought leadership on best-in-class shelving executions, ensuring the right items are in the right place, at the right time, for Walmart shoppers.
  • Partner closely with Walmart Online Site Merchandising teams & Category Buyer to shape the best-in-class digital experience for your category on Walmart.ca.
  • Recommend online assortment, discoverability, and digital merchandising to improve category performance and shopper conversion.
  • Apply insights from online behavior, search, and digital trends to inform broader category strategy.
  • Take a lead role in automating key Category Development processes, using advanced analytics, automation tools, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and scale how work is generated — freeing up time for higher-value strategic work.
  • Act as a change leader, helping modernize how category insights and work are delivered.
  • Leverage multiple data sources to generate insights and translate them into simple, compelling, actionable recommendations across shelving, distribution & merchandising.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis, and competitive assessments to unlock growth opportunities.
  • Strengthen long-term strategic partnerships by bringing thought leadership, clarity, and collaboration to every interaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • 2–3 years of experience in sales, customer business development, category management, or analytics-driven roles.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with comfort working in data-rich environments.
  • Proven leadership, ownership mindset, and a bias for action.
  • Clear, confident communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Based in Toronto (no relocation support available).

Skills

  • Experience with tools such as Nielsen Analytics, Power BI, or similar analytics platforms is a strong asset.
  • Experience with shelf or space planning software (e.g., JDA Space Planning) is an asset.
  • Passion for digital commerce, automation, and continuous learning.
