About the Role

Provide leadership and support to local Safety & Operations Managers in school transportation facilities. Coordinate driver development and safety efforts, including recordkeeping, training, and compliance with regulations and company policy. Offer guidance and assistance to training personnel and local Terminal Managers.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing cost-effective safety and training programs for the assigned Area.
• Ensure mandated bus evacuation drills, driver proficiencies, and driver check-ride evaluations are performed biennially.
• Ensure all Area employees receive job-specific training.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of safety-related employee onboarding processes.
• Review training records according to US DOT and STA company policy.
• Frequently audit safety systems and driver qualification credential files for compliance.
• Monitor programs conducted by instructors in each operation.
• Maintain accident statistics; prepare monthly reports on preventable accidents, injuries, and probable causes.
• Assist in developing accident prevention programs.
• Assist in identifying reoccurring accidents within a division and recommending a possible remedy.
• Attend, participate, and assist with monthly safety meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Assist local operations with classroom or behind-the-wheel training during instructor shortages.
• Assist with recruiting drivers and instructors in all locations as needed.
• Assist in scheduling and/or facilitation of annual driver evaluation.
• Understand Special Needs transportation, including proper wheelchair securement and wheelchair lift procedures.
• Evaluate unsafe bus stops.
• Conduct on-road evaluations.
• Conduct accident investigations.
• Operate bus and perform other related duties as needed.
• Perform other duties as required by STA Senior Management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree in a safety-related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of school bus driving experience or related field with driver training and defensive driving responsibility.
• Experience managing at least 10 locations/facilities.
• Multi-state experience a plus.
• Comprehensive knowledge of school bus and DOT safety regulations.
• 3 to 5 years in a safety supervisory/management role or loss control with school bus transportation or vehicle fleet experience.
