About the Role
Set strategy and drive execution for Scribd's Search team, transforming the search experience into a best-in-class discovery engine for 200 million monthly visitors across 300 million documents. Leverage advanced algorithms and behavioral signals to deliver relevant search results. Define vision, metrics, and experiment with features in partnership with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Chart long-term search strategy and own multi-year roadmap for query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and results presentation.
- Partner with ML Engineering & Applied Research to translate cutting-edge research into production systems for relevance.
- Define and monitor key search success metrics: query success rate, zero-result rate, click-through, subscription conversion, and retention.
- Balance short-term wins with long-term vision, shipping incremental improvements and building an extensible search platform aligned with Scribd's 3-year AI strategy.
- Synthesize experiment results, query analytics, user interviews, and feedback to inform prioritization and feature design.
- Communicate clearly and influence stakeholders by articulating requirements, timelines, deliverables, and expected impact.
Requirements
- Ability to set and achieve goals, deliver results, contribute innovative ideas, and positively influence teams.
- Deep technical fluency in ML/AI combined with seasoned product management experience.
- 8+ years of product management experience, including 5+ years leading search or recommendations products in high-traffic consumer environments.
- Demonstrated success shipping ML-driven features that improved core business metrics for large-scale products.
- Deep familiarity with retrieval and ranking algorithms, embeddings, and feature stores, with end-to-end customer journey reasoning.
- Track record of thriving amid ambiguity, shaping multi-year visions, aligning cross-functional teams, and delivering incremental wins.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for product briefs, team inputs, and data-backed presentations to leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

- California, United States: $194,500 - $280,000
- United States (outside California): $160,000 - $265,000
