About the Role

Oversee the management and performance of Autonomous Vehicle Operators and the local vehicle fleet. This critical role ensures efficient vehicle operation on a complex route network, supports customer deliveries, and facilitates training/testing of autonomous class 3-7 box trucks. Responsibilities include upholding exceptional safety standards, optimizing driver schedules, managing truck readiness and maintenance, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role reports to the Head of Operations and involves partnering with various internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen, and hire qualified truck drivers, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct driver orientation, training, and ongoing performance management.
  • Perform ride-along trips with drivers to evaluate performance and train on safety, quality, and customer service.
  • Champion a safety-first culture within the assigned territory.
  • Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular inspections, and ensure adherence to all FMCSA, DOT, and company regulations, including driver qualifications, drug testing, and ongoing training.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to schedule and oversee timely preventative maintenance and repairs for the assigned fleet, minimizing downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Assist with registering and licensing all trucks in the assigned territory.
  • Manage team and platforms to keep ELD logs, regulatory and registration up-to-date, vehicle maintenance logs, and maintenance reminders up to date by performing regular audits.
  • Maintain company and contractual assets, including vehicles, facilities, inventories, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain positive, constructive relationships with assigned customers, proactively delivering on key performance indicators, addressing service issues, and pursuing contract growth opportunities.
  • Manage daily route planning and scheduling to ensure on-time deliveries while maximizing fleet efficiency and managing labor costs.
  • Monitor the status of Autonomous Vehicle Operators and deliveries to coordinate and prioritize their schedule.
  • Manage work schedules to optimize hours and reduce or monitor overtime usage.
  • Address driver concerns, resolve route issues, troubleshoot delays, and handle unexpected logistical challenges.
  • Analyze driver performance metrics and fleet data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate current operational performance and KPIs in the assigned territory and develop an operational plan for improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation management, ideally with a focus on driver supervision and fleet operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Proven commitment to safety standards.
  • Familiarity with route planning software and transportation management systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Valid US CDL driver's license, clean driving record, and safe driving habits.
  • Clean background check, drug screen, and DMV Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Ability and experience operating Class 3 to Class 6 vehicles.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including taking action after scheduled shifts.
