Responsibilities
- Perform all welding operations for rail vehicle manufacturing.
- Operate and learn all welding machines including GMAW, GTAW, and Resistance Spot Welders.
- Set up welding machines with minimal supervision.
- Possess working knowledge of material properties, methods, basic setup, verification, adjustment, and operation of welding equipment and hand tools (grinding and cutting).
- Read blueprints or work instructions, set up jigs and fixtures, and comprehend welding symbols and sequences.
- Safely use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Work safely, compliant with Alstom Zero Deviation Procedures and EHS regulations.
- Weld different materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel) and pass Level C welder evaluation tests.
- Communicate effectively with Supervision, Level A welders, Engineering, and Quality Departments regarding design or material changes.
- Accept different work assignments and maintain a clean working environment.
- Listen, learn, and comprehend from experienced welders to meet company and customer requirements.
- Assist in new process development and product troubleshooting.
- Utilize digital technology in daily work responsibilities.
- Obtain or possess external certifications (AWS/ANST or equivalent).
- Inspect arc or spot welded weldments per acceptance criteria and perform dimensional measurements.
- Demonstrate working knowledge in SMAW and FCAW welding processes.
- Apply knowledge of post-weld finishing technology and tools (graining SS/passivation/straightening) and learn new techniques.
- Possess acceptable hand/eye coordination and pass visual acuity tests.
- Possess working knowledge of non-destructive testing (e.g., dye-penetrant, magnetic particle) or equivalent certification.
- Perform other assigned responsibilities.
