About the Role
Investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate, and resolve assigned Specialty Liability Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims or first-party business property claims of moderate severity or complexity. Ensure quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle, maintaining compliance with internal and external quality standards and state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform timely coverage analysis and communicate with insureds based on policy information and case facts.
- Consult with Unit Manager regarding Claim Coverage Counsel.
- Investigate claims by contacting policyholders, accounts, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers, and technical experts to determine liability, damages, and contribution potential.
- Take necessary statements.
- Identify resources for claim investigation, including Subrogation, Risk Control, Salvage, and fire or fraud investigators.
- Coordinate efforts and findings of requested resources through the Unit Manager.
- Verify injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing records and documentation.
- Maintain an effective diary management system for timely claim handling.
- Evaluate liability and damages exposure, and establish proper indemnity and expense reserves at required intervals.
- Utilize evaluation documentation tools according to department guidelines.
- Ensure prompt, cost-effective, and proper disposition of claims within delegated authority.
- Negotiate claim disposition with insureds, claimants, or their representatives.
- Recognize and implement alternate means of resolution.
- Maintain claim files, an effective diary system, and document activities according to established procedures.
- Attend depositions and other legal proceedings as needed.
- Update appropriate parties with new facts and their impact on liability analysis and settlement options.
- Refer cases to the next level claim professional or Major Case Unit based on severity protocols.
- Handle personal and confidential information appropriately.
- Fulfill specific service commitments for accounts, as outlined in SAC instructions, and respond to inquiries from agents and brokers.
- Represent the company as a technical resource, attend legal proceedings, and act within professional guidelines and applicable state laws.
- Provide quality customer service and ensure file quality.
- Share accountability with business partners for achieving and sustaining quality results.
- Acquire and maintain required insurance license(s) to comply with state and Travelers requirements.
- Obtain license(s) within three months of starting and complete ongoing continuing education credits.
- Write denial letters, Reservation of Rights, and other complex correspondence.
- Assess and manage damages using cost evaluation tools.
- Meet all quality standards and expectations per Knowledge Guides.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- One year of bodily injury liability claim handling experience.
- One year of liability claim experience.
- One year of property claim handling experience.
- Successful completion of Travelers Claim Representative training program.

Salary/Compensations
- $67,000.00 - $110,600.00 (nationwide market range).
