About the Role

The Dietary Aide supports resident safety by preparing meals and providing high-quality care, aligning with the organization's vision and mission. The role requires a passionate, team-oriented individual with a strong moral compass, dedicated to making meaningful connections and 'Making Every Moment Matter™'.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental and town hall meetings.
  • Receive verbal/written endorsement regarding changes in resident status.
  • Ensure open communication among staff and team members.
  • Encourage participation in the Home’s committees/teams.
  • Report observations to Food Service Manager/Supervisor regarding resident care, including food preferences, likes, dislikes, and intake.
  • Mentor new staff and students.
  • Support and promote a team approach.
  • Deliver ongoing customer service to staff, residents, families, and the public.
  • Ensure optimal quality of life for each resident through individualized care.
  • Follow therapeutic interventions per resident’s plan of care.
  • Contribute to a pleasurable dining experience for residents during mealtimes.
  • Report faulty equipment and ensure its removal from the unit.
  • Complete documentation records for every shift, including food temperature, freezer, fridge, sanitizer, dish machine, equipment checklist audit, and cleaning checklists.
  • Adhere to Infection Prevention and Control and Safe Food Handling procedures.
  • Understand and participate in improving quality indicators, achieving satisfactory results.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory for work areas, communicating needs to the Cook or Food Services Supervisor/Manager.
  • Utilize equipment and supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Complete all required annual education.
  • Perform other assigned duties as indicated in the Job Task Inventory.

Requirements

  • Preference for candidates who completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a private career college.
  • Preference for candidates who completed an apprenticeship program in Cook, Institutional Cook, or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021.
  • Preference for candidates who entered into a registered training agreement in Cook, Institutional Cook, or Assistant Cook under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021.
  • Appropriate skills, knowledge, and experience in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality food service.
  • Food Handler Certification from Public Health or a certified agency.
  • Previous institutional dietary service experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipe directions, diet orders, and work assignments.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Public Health, and Home’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated person-centered and customer-focused approach, turning tasks into positive social interactions.
  • Ability to undertake and meet all legal requirements while promoting individual rights and managing risk.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months).
  • Recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or a chest X-ray (within the last 1 year).
  • Two supervisory references required.
  • Proof of all required vaccines; employer strongly recommends staying up to date with recommended vaccines.
