About the Role
As part of the sales support in the custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear (MES) department, this role acts as a liaison between the sales team and S&C’s design & production teams. The individual will handle all quotes and orders for medium voltage (MV) metal-enclosed switchgear in assigned territories.
Responsibilities
- Review customer project specifications and single-line diagrams to determine requirements
- Review conditions of service documents for power utilities in Canada and/or US to understand service entrance equipment requirements
- Prepare proposal sketches showing device arrangement and switchgear dimensional layout customized to site’s electrical and dimensional constraints
- Participate in customer site visits and meetings to understand constraints required for accurate switchgear design layout
- Prepare pricing for technical proposals and commercial strategies for each request
- Prepare detailed design specifications for electrical and mechanical designers to create detailed switchgear drawings
- Review switchgear drawings and follow-up on implementation of design change requests
- Provide customers, sales, and design with timely responses to technical inquiries using S&C resources and engineering knowledge
- Coordinate project requirements from order entry to shipping
- Participate in virtual and physical customer-witnessed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
- Frequently visit the production shop to continuously develop and visualize switchgear design concepts
- Participate in improving current processes using 4-Step Problem Solving methods
- Provide technical MES proposals with minimal support
- Liaise directly with end-customers on behalf of sales, when required
- Work on complex proposals with minimal support
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience working with electrical equipment in a technical design, commercial customer service, or manufacturing function
- Understanding of power system protection and control applications for low and/or medium voltage electrical distribution
- Intermediate knowledge of medium voltage switchgear design
- Technical knowledge and ability to propose S&C’s MES-related products (Vista, System VI & PMH/PME)
- Ability to read electrical single-line diagrams
- Knowledge of electrical standards for electrical equipment (UL, CSA, ANSI, IEEE)
- Experience with MicroStation or other CAD software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- P.Eng is considered an asset
