About the Role
Provide care for patients under the direction of physicians or health practitioners. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude, resolving complaints when patient needs are not met. Prioritize patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate urgency regarding patient safety and excellent customer service.
- Ensure patient well-being and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals or as individualized guidelines require.
- Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient medical records.
- Assist in providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff.
- Monitor patient safety through timely required rounds, ensuring clean and uncluttered patient rooms.
- Provide 15-minute or 1:1 patient observation as assigned.
- Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, height, and weight as assigned.
- Identify self to patients and visitors promptly, responding quickly to patient requests.
- Engage patients in activities and interactions to encourage treatment goal achievement.
- Respond to distressed patients non-threateningly, attempting to understand the source of distress.
- Apply de-escalation techniques to manage patient emotions, behavior, and treatment participation, assisting with seclusion and restraint when necessary.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient safety, coping skills, and independence.
- Monitor and reinforce positive behavioral improvements, reporting changes and responses to treatment to the team, and significant changes to the nurse immediately.
- Reinforce skills learned from nurses, physicians, and therapists to promote improved physical and mental wellness.
- Oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens, as needed.
- Assist with admissions and discharges as needed.
- Lead or co-lead individual or group sessions for recreational or therapeutic procedures.
- Participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs, teaching strategies to promote patient wellness and independence as needed.
- Provide or coordinate patient transportation with appropriate staff as needed.
- Ensure accuracy, neatness, and timeliness in work completion.
- Perform other assigned functions and tasks.
Requirements
- CPR certification required
- De-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility)
- First aid certification may be required based on state or facility requirements

Experience Level
- Six months experience as a BHA1 preferred
- Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred
