About the Role
The Project Accounting Analyst will join the Project Accounting group, reporting to the Project Analyst Lead. This hybrid role involves portfolio-based project accounting and financial performance analysis for assigned projects. The analyst monitors financial performance, manages project lifecycle accounting, and ensures adherence to company policies and procedures under close supervision.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an individual project portfolio of low to medium complexity projects
- Partner with Project Managers and project teams during the pre-contract/pursuit phase to provide accurate salary rates for pricing proposals, establish project budgets, update budgets, and make project accounting recommendations
- Review and provide input to the margin analysis drafting and review process
- Review all contracts, modifications, supplements, amendments, and task orders, including terms of compensation, contract terms, reporting requirements, invoice formats, invoicing frequency, supporting document requirements, and approved billing amounts
- Coordinate with Contract Administrator for proper adherence to document control procedures
- Provide executed subcontract agreements and/or modifications to the Contracts Administration team
- Manage subconsultant financial requirements for projects, including assisting in problem-solving issues related to purchase orders, invoice corrections, and ensuring prompt payment to SBE/DBE firms
- Review and monitor project financial performance regularly
- Perform detailed analysis regarding revenue recognition, WIP status, overhead adjustments, variances, burn rate analyses, and estimates to complete as required
- Facilitate appropriate revenue recognition, including recommending interim write-offs or markup adjustments, and closeout windfalls or write-offs
- Analyze work in process (WIP) prior to monthly billing to minimize potential for over-recognition of revenue
- Inform Billing Supervisor or update comments in WIP database regarding billing priorities and/or status based on information from Project Managers or Project Reviews
- Review WIP against monthly billings
- Create and maintain off-line spreadsheets or other financial reports as required by contract
- Collaborate with Project Managers/Assistant Project Managers to compile and present monthly reports on project financial status, including key performance indicators (WIP, AR, Burn Rates, Revenue Recognition) for monthly project reviews or as requested
- Participate in client and internal project meetings as necessary, including meetings with Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, or project teams regarding estimates to complete, other project financial status meetings, and meetings with Operations Directors per the Monthly Project Review procedure
- Provide support in internal and external audits, including client audits of overhead resulting in adjustments or payments
- Coordinate with the billing team in creating overhead adjustment invoices as needed
- Coordinate and collaborate with Billing Specialist(s) to ensure proper and timely invoicing per contract terms
- Submit invoices to clients as needed
- Work with Project Accounting Support Specialists to execute tasks, providing clear direction and reviewing requested items
- Work with multiple project managers and staff regularly
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
