About the Role
As an Analytics Engineer, you will own the data models and transformations underpinning credit decisioning, pricing, portfolio performance, and investor reporting for UK and US businesses. You will collaborate with analysts, product teams, backend engineers, and business stakeholders to enhance data structuring, transformation, and consumption across the company. This role is crucial for building a strong analytical foundation, enabling teams to quickly gain insights while maintaining high standards for data quality, scalability, and maintainability. You will operate with significant ownership, shaping the modelling layer, improving analyst data workflows, and ensuring the data warehouse remains a strategic asset.
Responsibilities
- Own and improve data models supporting lending decisions, pricing, portfolio analysis, and investor reporting.
- Drive dbt model and transformation layer development, collaborating with analysts and stakeholders to enhance insight generation speed and quality.
- Define good modelling patterns, architecture, and implementation standards for the analytics engineering layer.
- Support and mentor analysts at various technical levels, fostering stronger engineering habits and data effectiveness.
- Bridge communication between analysts, backend engineers, product teams, and the data platform team for effective data generation, modelling, and usage.
- Lead triage and resolution of issues affecting the analytics pipeline or reducing trust in downstream datasets.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the transformation pipeline.
Requirements
- Strong data modelling skills and understanding of analytical dataset structuring for reliability and usability.
- Strong experience with ELT pipelines and transformation at scale, ideally using dbt.
- Experience with Snowflake or another modern cloud data warehouse.
- Good judgment in balancing long-term platform improvements with day-to-day business needs.
- Ability to identify and independently improve inefficiencies in existing data workflows.
- Collaborative working style and clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort using AI tools effectively to enhance analytical and engineering workflows.
- Interest in supporting analysts to raise their technical bar through mentoring and shared patterns.
