About the Role

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, delivering fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond existing networks, including households, schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies. The team designs innovative satellite and ground systems using custom silicon and secure software to achieve global connectivity. As a Device Software Development Engineer on the Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) team, you will design and develop embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground systems. This role involves working on fault-tolerant, real-time platforms, collaborating with hardware, systems, and product teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance solutions. This is an opportunity to shape next-generation space-based communication systems, directly supporting critical government initiatives for U.S. and allied missions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for Amazon Leo's satellite and ground terminal systems, focusing on fault-tolerant, real-time platforms.
  • Leverage modern application frameworks for Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms to develop scalable, modular, and high-performance software.
  • Implement and integrate software for data processing, device control, and networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Debug and resolve complex hardware-software integration issues using tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless hardware-software interaction and system reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and uphold high software quality standards.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen (required for government-imposed requirements)
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, scaling)
  • 2+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 2+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
