About the Role

The Policy team drives the PSR's strategy, offering an exciting opportunity to work on policy development, analysis, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement. The PSR is an independent economic regulator ensuring payment systems function effectively for everyone. While currently an independent subsidiary of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the PSR will consolidate into the FCA by 2027, continuing its vital work in payments regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and contribute to policy projects and analysis, individually and within a team, overseeing junior colleagues' work.
  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary project teams, building relationships with policy, economist, legal, and communications colleagues to deliver high-quality work.
  • Build relationships with external stakeholders, including firms, government, other regulators, and consumer groups, to gather evidence, test policy options, and explain the PSR's approach.
  • Oversee and utilize robust policy and economic analysis to manage policy development.
  • Draft briefings and papers to explain complex issues under tight deadlines and present policy recommendations to PSR leadership.
  • Act as a role model, sharing knowledge and best practices with junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a policy or regulatory environment.
  • Experience in project delivery, including leading workstreams, planning, meeting deadlines, and understanding risks and opportunities.
  • Prior experience developing policy proposals and presenting recommendations to leadership, ideally in a regulatory role.

Skills

  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including distilling complex issues into succinct messages and professional presentation to diverse stakeholders.
  • Effective relationship and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate at senior internal and external levels.
  • Solid prioritization skills to define priorities and contribute effectively where most needed.
  • Ability to identify and exercise judgment in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, including economists, lawyers, and payment specialists.
  • Ability to consider conflicting views while maintaining focus on overall strategic aims and objectives.

Salary/Compensations

  • National (Edinburgh and Leeds): £53,800 to £67,200
  • London: £59,200 to £73,800
