About the Role
New York Bus Sales, a full-service dealership, seeks a Service Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles, trucks, and buses. This role involves major repairs, overhauls, and independent diagnosis of engine groups, while also providing guidance to other technicians.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and machinery.
- Perform inspections and repairs to ensure vehicle compliance.
- Prepare vehicles for DOT inspection.
- Maintain and repair vehicle electrical components, including lighting and charging systems.
- Troubleshoot vehicle repairs, including electrical issues.
- Install vehicle repair components.
- Replace exterior engine components.
- Inspect and repair transmissions and driveline components.
- Perform major internal engine repairs.
- Clean internal and exterior engine components, including servicing with fuel, oil, and grease.
- Perform emergency road service.
- Perform welding repairs as needed.
- Perform AC installation and repairs.
- Perform brake pulls on vehicles.
- Adhere to all prescribed safety methods.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1-4 years minimum related experience.
- NYS CDL, Class B driver license with Passenger endorsement (No N, N1, N2 restriction) preferred.
- Cummins Certification 07 & 10 preferred.
- Rousch Certification preferred.
- Propane Certification preferred.
- Blue Bird Academy Certification preferred.
- AC Certification preferred.
- NYS DMV Inspector Certification.
- OBD II Diagnosis.
- Ford experience or training.
- Allison Transmission Certification.
- ASE Test Series for School Bus (Body Systems, Special Equipment, Diesel Engines, Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Drive Train, Air Conditioning Systems & Controls).
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and correspondence.
- Manual and finger dexterity for using laptops, shop equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs constantly and up to 50 lbs frequently.
- Ability to occasionally lift over 50 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, kneel, and reach.
- Ability to occasionally climb, balance, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion of turning and twisting tools.
Skills
- Working knowledge of modern automotive maintenance methods and procedures.
- Skilled in automotive repair using specialized tools and equipment.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative for continuous learning.
- Proficiency in computer diagnostics and testing.
- Ability to quickly and accurately diagnose problems.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to guide customers on vehicle issues and solutions.
- Ability to make sound business decisions during road calls and customer inquiries.
- Ability to write/type for certifications and work orders, and perform numeric calculations for diagnostics.
