About the Role

As a founding member of Nitra’s People function, the People Operations Associate will build the operational backbone of HR from the ground up. This Series B company, scaling toward unicorn status, requires someone to establish systems, processes, and programs for hiring, developing, rewarding, and retaining exceptional talent efficiently. This high-ownership opportunity involves defining People operations, owning infrastructure for performance reviews, compensation, onboarding, offboarding, compliance, and manager/leadership enablement, partnering directly with leadership. The role seeks a detail-oriented operator who approaches People Ops as a discipline of systems and rigor.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own core People Operations infrastructure, including HRIS, employee records, policies, workflows, and documentation.
  • Design and execute end-to-end performance review cycles, including calibration, manager guidance, cadence, and tooling.
  • Own compensation analysis and structure, supporting benchmarking, leveling frameworks, compensation bands, and operationalizing merit, promotion, and equity processes.
  • Create and manage a structured, world-class onboarding experience for new hires.
  • Manage a thoughtful and compliant offboarding process.
  • Drive team enablement and manager/leadership training programs.
  • Ensure HR compliance with federal, state, and multi-state employment requirements, including leave, classification, and recordkeeping.
  • Build people analytics and reporting, establishing metrics, dashboards, and reports for leadership visibility.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees and managers on People matters, handling sensitive situations with discretion.
  • Partner cross-functionally with leadership, recruiting, finance, and operations to align People programs with business operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or a closely related operations role, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • Proven track record of building processes and infrastructure from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS administration, performance review cycles, onboarding/offboarding, and compliance.
  • Comfort working with data and analysis, including compensation benchmarks, headcount, and people metrics, to provide clear recommendations.
  • Strong working knowledge of US employment law and HR compliance, including multi-state considerations.
