About the Role

This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the look and feel of the UI for a new casual mobile game. The User Interface Artist supports Product, UX, and Art in authoring innovative visual solutions to create visually compelling, aesthetically consistent, and effective user interface design that promotes ease of use. This position unites artistic vision with the user journey by transforming conceptual layouts into refined, high-fidelity interfaces, including HUDs, iconography, and navigational elements.

Responsibilities

  • Create UI design/layouts
  • Create high-fidelity mock-ups for pre-visualization during pre-production
  • Develop mood boards and help guide the visual design of features
  • Collaborate with the art team to define/adhere to a thematic art style
  • Integrate functional animations for user interactions into design
  • Prepare assets for implementation in the game engine
  • Collaborate with UX Leadership to ensure designs meet best-in-class player experiences
  • Partner with Production on defining time estimates and surfacing risks
  • Work closely with technical artists and engineers to ensure implemented UI meets technical requirements while meeting established quality standards
  • Set examples, guides, and templates for UI
  • Participate in company-wide UI community events, critiques, product reviews, and feature retrospectives
  • Participate in critiques, product reviews, and retrospectives
  • Collaborate with UI staff from other game teams to share findings and develop standard methodologies across the organization

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in the game development industry specializing in UI Art and Visual Design
  • Worked on 3+ different game titles
  • Passion for the casual mobile game space with applicable portfolio examples demonstrating a wide range of work and high level of polish
  • Experience applying user testing and genre research into design decisions
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently
  • Demonstrates proactive self-development and interest in leveling up personal, interpersonal, and craft skills
  • Be organized and demonstrate good digital hygiene and adhere to established naming conventions and organizational standard methodologies
  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to co-work and connect with multiple studio locations, teams, and partners
  • Able to collaborate with proactive communication and a willingness to build consensus with potentially opposing perspectives
  • Experienced in adapting and adhering to an established visual style and building upon it
  • Highly polished final UI components that meet, if not exceed market expectations

  • $75,700 and $112,060 CAD per Year (Ontario)
  • $100,200 and $148,320 USD per Year (California)
