About the Role

The Housekeeping Assistant Manager works with the Operations Manager to supervise housekeeping and laundry operations, ensuring product quality standards and optimum guest service are met according to hotel and company objectives. This onsite lead supervisory role oversees a small team of 10-20 housekeeping and laundry employees, performing cleaning duties across all hotel areas. The manager is responsible for maintaining a neat and organized housekeeping and laundry area, securing linen and supplies inventory, and focusing on guest and associate satisfaction, expense control, and product quality to contribute to overall hotel goals.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients.
  • Manage according to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service.
  • Create processes and procedures to ensure the hotel is properly supplied with guest amenities, meets guest expectations, and is maintained clean.
  • Ensure all staff are properly trained and have necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Lead the delivery of clean rooms for occupancy, meeting brand time, product, and placement standards.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to monitor performance and recommend human resources-related actions.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to recruit, develop, and manage Housekeeping staff.
  • Inspect assigned suites and public areas to ensure cleanliness and good repair of furnishings, equipment, and linens.
  • Advise employees of deficiencies, instruct on corrective action, and provide retraining as needed.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, including making beds, vacuuming, and cleaning guest suites.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Manager on the proper use and cleaning of commercial laundry equipment and laundry operation management.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to inventory and maintain par levels for linen and supplies.
  • Maintain procedures for the security of lost and found items.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departmental management.
  • Enforce hotel standards, policies, and procedures within the housekeeping department.
  • Act as Manager on Duty as required.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety laws.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of housekeeping experience.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory training or experience.
  • Previous background from the extended stay industry preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English.
  • Other languages beneficial.
  • Strong reading and writing abilities for effective communication, task completion, ordering supplies, and understanding manuals/safety information.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem-solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Ability to frequently stand, bend, climb, kneel, stoop, and crawl.
  • Ability to frequently move about the facility.
  • Ability to frequently handle objects and equipment.
  • Ability to carry, lift, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to regularly use commercial cleaning chemicals.
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
