About the Role
ALO is seeking a mid-to-senior level corporate attorney to play a foundational role in establishing and scaling ALO's business operations in Europe and the UK. This position requires a strategic, hands-on lawyer with corporate and commercial experience gained at a leading law firm and in-house, who is comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving environment with limited existing infrastructure. The role will cover entity formation, regulatory compliance, commercial partnerships, retail and e-commerce operations, employment, and ongoing legal support across all aspects of ALOs European and UK business.
Responsibilities
- Lead legal workstream for establishing and maintaining ALO's corporate presence in Europe and the UK, including entity formation, business licensing, foreign investment approvals, and government registrations.
- Coordinate with external counsel, tax advisors, and government affairs consultants for market entry strategy execution.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements for European and UK operations, including vendor, retail lease, distribution, logistics, supply chain, warehousing, brand collaboration, professional services, and NDA contracts.
- Adapt global contract templates and playbooks for local markets, ensuring compliance with local law and business practices.
- Collaborate with legal support staff and U.S. legal team to ensure proper contract execution, tracking, and storage.
- Advise on compliance with local laws and regulations, including foreign investment, consumer protection, advertising, marketing, product labeling, import/export, anti-corruption, and labor and employment.
- Oversee data privacy and cybersecurity compliance, including cross-border data transfer requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and proactively advise the business on required changes.
- Manage ALO's trademark, copyright, and IP registrations and enforcement in Europe and the UK, collaborating with local IP counsel.
- Work with the brand protection team on strategies, including anti-counterfeiting measures.
- Serve as the primary legal partner to European and UK business teams across retail, e-commerce, marketing, operations, and finance.
- Act as a liaison between U.S. headquarters legal team and local operations, ensuring global legal standard alignment and local adaptation.
- Communicate clear and practical legal guidance to non-legal stakeholders across languages and cultures.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and external legal service providers, ensuring performance aligns with company expectations.
Requirements
- Law degree from a leading university with strong academic credentials.
- Qualified to practice law in the UK or France.
- Admission to a U.S. state bar or qualification in another common law jurisdiction (plus).
- 5-8 years of corporate and commercial legal experience, combining work at a leading international law firm and in-house at a multinational company.
- Experience negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS or technology-related contracts.
- Advanced knowledge of GDPR and other applicable data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks.
- Experience with IP registration and brand protection (plus).
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
- Outstanding analytical and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Self-starter with ability to balance multiple projects, complete tasks accurately, on schedule, and with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to take initiative and work flexible hours for collaboration with U.S.-based teams.
