About the Role

ALO is seeking a mid-to-senior level corporate attorney to play a foundational role in establishing and scaling ALO's business operations in Europe and the UK. This position requires a strategic, hands-on lawyer with corporate and commercial experience gained at a leading law firm and in-house, who is comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving environment with limited existing infrastructure. The role will cover entity formation, regulatory compliance, commercial partnerships, retail and e-commerce operations, employment, and ongoing legal support across all aspects of ALOs European and UK business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead legal workstream for establishing and maintaining ALO's corporate presence in Europe and the UK, including entity formation, business licensing, foreign investment approvals, and government registrations.
  • Coordinate with external counsel, tax advisors, and government affairs consultants for market entry strategy execution.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements for European and UK operations, including vendor, retail lease, distribution, logistics, supply chain, warehousing, brand collaboration, professional services, and NDA contracts.
  • Adapt global contract templates and playbooks for local markets, ensuring compliance with local law and business practices.
  • Collaborate with legal support staff and U.S. legal team to ensure proper contract execution, tracking, and storage.
  • Advise on compliance with local laws and regulations, including foreign investment, consumer protection, advertising, marketing, product labeling, import/export, anti-corruption, and labor and employment.
  • Oversee data privacy and cybersecurity compliance, including cross-border data transfer requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively advise the business on required changes.
  • Manage ALO's trademark, copyright, and IP registrations and enforcement in Europe and the UK, collaborating with local IP counsel.
  • Work with the brand protection team on strategies, including anti-counterfeiting measures.
  • Serve as the primary legal partner to European and UK business teams across retail, e-commerce, marketing, operations, and finance.
  • Act as a liaison between U.S. headquarters legal team and local operations, ensuring global legal standard alignment and local adaptation.
  • Communicate clear and practical legal guidance to non-legal stakeholders across languages and cultures.
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and external legal service providers, ensuring performance aligns with company expectations.

Requirements

  • Law degree from a leading university with strong academic credentials.
  • Qualified to practice law in the UK or France.
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar or qualification in another common law jurisdiction (plus).
  • 5-8 years of corporate and commercial legal experience, combining work at a leading international law firm and in-house at a multinational company.
  • Experience negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS or technology-related contracts.
  • Advanced knowledge of GDPR and other applicable data privacy and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Experience with IP registration and brand protection (plus).
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
  • Outstanding analytical and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Self-starter with ability to balance multiple projects, complete tasks accurately, on schedule, and with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to take initiative and work flexible hours for collaboration with U.S.-based teams.
