Join the bridge team to design multi-modal infrastructure for future mobility, safety, and environmental needs. This role involves inspecting bridges and developing bridge and structural plans for transportation projects for TXDOT, State DOT agencies, and municipal localities.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering inspection, design, coordination, and project review in a specific engineering discipline.
- Conduct field inspections of highway bridges.
- Document defects and prepare inspection reports.
- Complete computations for load ratings of various bridge types.
- Prepare designs and contract documents for bridge repair or replacement.
- Provide construction support, including shop drawing review.
- Apply professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and methods for inspection and design activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Relevant internship experience (preferred).
- Experience with TXDOT bridge safety inspections (a plus).
- Completion of NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges) (a plus).
- Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state as needed.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and in a design group setting.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Writing and drawing skills for inspection reports and documentation.
- Willingness to work nights and overtime when required.
- Hands-on experience with MicroStation/GEOPAK/Open Bridge software (a plus).
- Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively.
- Exceptional communication and organization skills.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field.
- Ability to walk and navigate across rough or uneven terrain.
- Ability to move around active project sites, including climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or cart objects up to 50 lbs. distances up to 100 yards.
- Ability to drive to and from project sites, potentially up to or exceeding 400 miles round trip.
- Ability to function safely in environments with potential risks.
- Willingness to work in various environmental conditions, including high/low temperatures, precipitation, outdoor elements, noisy conditions, or confined/enclosed spaces.
