About the Role

The Signature Programs Specialist provides year-round support to the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, a volunteer-led 5 km or 1 km walk/run and Canada's largest breast cancer fundraiser. Reporting to the Manager of Signature Programs, this role contributes to fundraising, event logistics, and stewardship efforts for Run for the Cure events across Canada. The Specialist is responsible for meeting annual participant and revenue targets for assigned events, cultivating relationships with leadership volunteers, event sponsors, and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main staff partner for 4-5 Run for the Cure events, primarily located in Ontario.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to volunteer committees and Run Directors to drive engagement and results.
  • Meet regularly with volunteer Run Directors throughout event season and attend committee meetings as needed.
  • Ensure volunteers plan and execute safe, fun, and memorable event experiences while adhering to Run for the Cure Minimum Standards.
  • Lead and contribute to Run for the Cure projects by developing high-quality tools, resources, and processes.
  • Create comprehensive training materials and deliver group training to staff and volunteers.
  • Recruit and retain high-caliber volunteers to address committee gaps and prioritize succession planning.
  • Facilitate onboarding and provide personalized training to newly recruited volunteers joining a Run for the Cure committee.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute strategies and tactics for achieving program goals and objectives.
  • Identify creative and innovative opportunities to improve or enhance the Run for the Cure program.
  • Actively seek and secure new business for CCS by prospecting, approaching, and pitching to new and existing contacts.
  • Work collaboratively with the CCS corporate team to implement sponsorship solicitation, acquisition, and stewardship strategies for Run for the Cure events.
  • Follow all guidelines established by national leadership, including Marketing, Communications, Digital Support, Finance, Team People, and IT.
  • Maintain relationship data for volunteers and key stakeholders in Salesforce CRM.
  • Ensure internal and external communications and materials reflect CCS values and culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Contribute to a culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity (DIBE).

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in fundraising, event management, and/or relationship management.
  • Demonstrated donor-centric approach to fundraising.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work at both a strategic and operational level.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong event management and relationship management skills.
  • Experience negotiating and fulfilling event-related sponsorship and operational contracts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with presentation and facilitation experience.
  • Proven ability to accomplish goals and establish priorities with minimal direction.
  • Ability to travel within Canada; a valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that allows for meetings and events as per business needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Experience leading volunteer organizing committees is an asset.
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising event experience is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce is an asset.
  • English proficiency is required; French/Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations.
