About the Role

Support the storage team in the Cloud Platform division as a remote Senior Storage Engineer (Ceph). Global efficiency and reliability are critical for Index's 24x7 global transactions, where millions of requests are evaluated each second.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate a highly scalable, performant, and resilient planet-scale storage layer.
• Develop and maintain automation for logging, monitoring, and maintenance of the storage layer.
• Enhance and optimize existing systems using technologies like Hadoop, Spark, Aerospike, and Kafka.
• Participate in complex security system designs and mentor junior teammates.
• Act as a senior contributor, taking ownership of large projects and components.
• Champion improvements to team and division processes and procedures.
• Influence team direction and foster accountability, trust, and goal focus.
• Live and promote Index values internally and externally.

Requirements

• Experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting open-source distributed storage solutions (e.g., Ceph) and storage orchestrators (e.g., Rook) in automated, large-scale environments.
• Experience with IaC and configuration management tools (e.g., Salt, Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
• Experience with storage level replication technologies.
• Strong experience with capacity planning, disaster recovery, and monitoring.

Skills

• Ability to relay information and ideas effectively within and across teams.
• Adaptability to a fast-paced industry, prioritizing tasks against competing scope and timelines.
• Strong foundation in Operations, with experience solving complex problems and building solutions (CI/CD, real-time monitoring, production issues).
• Rigorous approach to designing and managing massive, globally distributed systems, ensuring thorough, scalable, and robust solutions.
