About the Role

State Farm prioritizes community investment and seeks an experienced Data Engineer for its Innovation Group's AIMD team, focusing on Advanced AI, Modeling, and Data. This role requires adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving data environment. It is a hybrid position, requiring time in the office at specified hub locations. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. immediately, as employer sponsorship is not provided. A 12-month incumbency period applies before lateral transfers, with exceptions for leadership or Technology Engineer roles.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize industry-adopted languages and frameworks in coding, testing, security, DevOps, DataOps, and data engineering practices
  • Develop and maintain reusable, scalable, and compliant data solutions across multiple platforms and compute environments
  • Identify, acquire, cleanse, profile, and perform ETL (extracting, transformation, and loading) of data for analytic discovery and production solution deployment
  • Establish business domain knowledge for existing State Farm data sources and initiate acquisition of internal and external data resources
  • Identify and consult on emerging technologies and critical core systems, including techniques, tools, data sources, and platforms in data engineering
  • Handle datasets containing mixes of structured and unstructured data
  • Exhibit a DataOps mindset, ensuring data aligns to enterprise needs and leveraging automation for quality data solutions
  • Collect and analyze information to identify customer's technical needs, suggest solutions, and develop implementation and integration plans
  • Analyze, design, deploy, support, and secure technology to ensure efficient management of technology and data-related assets in accordance with market best-practices and external regulations
  • Apply complex principles, theories, and concepts in computer science for data engineering solutions

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Spark SQL (or PySpark), R, Java, Bash
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including ETL tools (Glue, EMR Serverless), Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis Firehose, Redshift, Iceberg, and SageMaker
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Databricks
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as OpenTofu (formerly Terraform) for managing cloud resources and deployments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines including automated testing, security scans, and tools like Airflow

Skills

Salary/Compensations

  • $85,500 - $140,000
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
