About the Role

Join the Red Hat Satellite Engineering team as a Software Engineer, contributing to the robustness, reliability, and performance of Red Hat Satellite. This system management platform efficiently deploys, configures, and maintains large-scale Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructure, built on open-source projects like Foreman and Katello. The role involves full-stack development in Linux environments, utilizing technologies such as Python, Pytest, Ruby on Rails, React, and PostgreSQL, with a focus on RHEL and Fedora. The team actively uses and experiments with AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of software features and bug fixes.
  • Define test coverage and write and maintain automated tests for bugs and new features.
  • Collaborate with team members on analyzing and fixing project bugs.
  • Incorporate feedback from PR reviews to complete development tasks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across time zones and geolocations.
  • Communicate planned changes publicly with developers and users, incorporating their input.
  • Develop prototypes for new enhancements and experiment with new tools.
  • Demonstrate contributions to stakeholders and the community.

Requirements

  • Experience in software development using Python, Ruby on Rails, or React (JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, preferably with Pytest.
  • Experience with Linux operating system environment, command line, and file system navigation.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases and database interaction concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to solve technical issues independently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with new technologies.
  • Ability to work without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Contributions to open-source projects (Nice-to-Have).
  • Hands-on experience with the upstream Foreman community (Nice-to-Have).
  • Familiarity with Agile development principles and Scrum ceremonies (Nice-to-Have).
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and willingness to experiment with emerging AI technologies (Nice-to-Have).
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls) and ability to troubleshoot network issues (Nice-to-Have).
  • Knowledge of CI practices, Kubernetes, and container technologies (Docker, Podman) (Nice-to-Have).
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet or Ansible (Nice-to-Have).
  • Familiarity with provisioning servers using bootable media (ISO/USB) and network (PXE) boot (Nice-to-Have).
  • Exposure to virtualization/cloud platforms like VMware, KVM, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, or GCP (Nice-to-Have).
