About the Role

Join the Red Hat Satellite Engineering team as a Software Engineer, contributing to the robustness, reliability, and performance of Red Hat Satellite. This system management platform efficiently deploys, configures, and maintains large-scale Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) infrastructure, built on open-source projects like Foreman and Katello. The role involves full-stack development in Linux environments, utilizing technologies such as Python, Pytest, Ruby on Rails, React, and PostgreSQL, with a focus on RHEL and Fedora. The team actively uses and experiments with AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the design and development of software features and bug fixes.
Define test coverage and write and maintain automated tests for bugs and new features.
Collaborate with team members on analyzing and fixing project bugs.
Incorporate feedback from PR reviews to complete development tasks.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across time zones and geolocations.
Communicate planned changes publicly with developers and users, incorporating their input.
Develop prototypes for new enhancements and experiment with new tools.
Demonstrate contributions to stakeholders and the community.

Requirements

Experience in software development using Python, Ruby on Rails, or React (JavaScript).
Familiarity with writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, preferably with Pytest.
Experience with Linux operating system environment, command line, and file system navigation.
Basic understanding of relational databases and database interaction concepts.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to solve technical issues independently.
Effective written and verbal communication in English.
Experience with Git or other version control systems.
Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with new technologies.
Ability to work without current or future visa sponsorship.
Contributions to open-source projects (Nice-to-Have).
Hands-on experience with the upstream Foreman community (Nice-to-Have).
Familiarity with Agile development principles and Scrum ceremonies (Nice-to-Have).
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and willingness to experiment with emerging AI technologies (Nice-to-Have).
Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls) and ability to troubleshoot network issues (Nice-to-Have).
Knowledge of CI practices, Kubernetes, and container technologies (Docker, Podman) (Nice-to-Have).
Experience with configuration management tools like Puppet or Ansible (Nice-to-Have).
Familiarity with provisioning servers using bootable media (ISO/USB) and network (PXE) boot (Nice-to-Have).
Exposure to virtualization/cloud platforms like VMware, KVM, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, or GCP (Nice-to-Have).
