About the Role

Join HDR's Education & Science (EdSci) practice as an Associate Principal, focusing on planning and designing inspiring spaces for higher education, science, and research. This role involves guiding the EdSci sector's direction in Texas, developing client bases, and enhancing the team's reputation. You will engage in business development, lead pursuits, and direct project teams, fostering strong client relationships from pre-positioning through project execution. Project types include learning environments and research facilities for academic, institutional, government, and corporate science clients, covering life sciences, physical sciences, biocontainment, and animal research.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to leadership and visioning for the EdSci sector in the Texas region
  • Develop capture plans and initiate relationships with key new clients
  • Maintain an active and visible presence in the EdSci sector
  • Develop qualifications and proposals for EdSci pursuits
  • Contribute to or lead pursuit go/no-go and strategy discussions
  • Contribute to or direct interview strategies and implementation
  • Prepare and negotiate project contracts
  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge and/or Project Manager on projects
  • Maintain project oversight, ensuring conformance to client expectations for technical/quality, financial performance, and schedule adherence
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to project teams
  • Develop abstracts and presentations for industry conferences, seminars, and workshops related to facility design

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 7 years of related experience
  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience
  • Ability to interact with various design teams
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Commitment to an employee-owned culture
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a closely related field (Preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in higher education (Preferred)
  • Registered Architect (Preferred)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule) (Preferred)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills (Preferred)
