About the Role

This role involves building a consolidated, modern portal to replace a patchwork of legacy systems for processing student financial-aid applications. The work aims to improve efficiency and accessibility for families relying on aid, focusing on public-interest engineering. The project entails standing up a cloud-native .NET (C#) application with microservices, containers, and REST APIs alongside existing DB2 mainframe, SQL Server, and older data stores, incrementally migrating functionality without disrupting daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Carve new .NET services off existing monoliths and integrate with mainframe data.
  • Design REST APIs for front-end consumption to consolidate staff interfaces.
  • Maintain data consistency between legacy and new systems during live operation.
  • Implement event movement between systems to ensure synchronization.
  • Secure authentication and financial data to government security standards, including SAML2/OIDC federation.
  • Ensure changes are safe with thorough testing and monitoring before production deployment.
  • Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Comfortable with TypeScript on the front-of-backend seam.
  • Integrated relational databases like SQL Server or DB2 behind clean APIs.
  • Designed microservices and REST APIs for other teams.
  • Moved data between systems using event streaming.
  • Implemented real authentication and authorization (OAuth2 / OIDC / SAML).
  • Ability to describe a personal migration project, including challenges.
