About the Role
AECOM seeks a motivated, technically experienced Mechanical Engineering Lead for its Oakland or San Francisco, CA office. This role involves leading proficient teams, designing custom solutions, mentoring staff, managing mechanical team workload, and developing calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications for complex mechanical design projects. The lead will develop teams for building engineering projects and requires excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Discipline Lead for the Bay Area team, providing mentorship to engineers.
- Responsible for Mechanical systems design (EOR of contract documents).
- Participate in developing project fee proposals, detailing scope, schedule, and budget.
- Coordinate design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, technology, and equipment supplier disciplines.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files.
- Evaluate project staffing requirements, analyze problems, and write reports.
- Lead client meetings regarding engineering systems and maintain good client relations.
- Identify prospective clients, assist in marketing efforts, and develop future projects with existing clients.
- Assure quality and completeness of engineering design.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or similar field.
- 8+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California.
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.

- 12+ years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education (Preferred).
- 5+ years of experience as the primary engineering interface with multiple clients either as a project manager or as the engineering lead (Preferred).
- Working knowledge of California Building Codes and relevant industry standards (ASHRAE, LEED, HCAI) (Preferred).
- Documented experience with advanced HVAC systems design and technically challenging projects with fast-paced schedules (Preferred).
- Experience with Design-Build and other Alternate Delivery practices (Preferred).
- Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience (Preferred).
- Experience with sustainable design and certification or high-performance buildings (Preferred).
- Experience in Healthcare market (Preferred).
- Experience in Federal Market Project Delivery (Preferred).
- Experience in Advanced Manufacturing market (Preferred).
- Experience in Data Centers / Mission Critical market (Preferred).
- Experience in Corporate Commercial / Mixed Use market (Preferred).
