About the Role

Join the Applications Engineering (AE) team to support customers throughout their journey with Cognex. The AE team determines optimal solutions using Cognex products, lighting, optics, and automation engineering within customer budget and skillset. Provide technical expertise to customers and collaborate with Sales to promote Cognex products.

Responsibilities

• Provide application guidance for medium-complexity Cognex applications, prioritizing as needed.
• Integrate Cognex products with devices such as PLCs, PCs, or Controllers.
• Perform standard troubleshooting for Cognex products and develop knowledge of peripheral technology.
• Support Sales with technical input during customer communications and visits.
• Share findings with the AE community.
• Maintain business systems information for accurate reporting.
• Provide product and customer feedback to the AE Manager for product improvement.

Requirements

• Develop general technical knowledge of Cognex’s vision and sensor product families.
• General knowledge of image processing, optics, and/or lighting for machine vision is desirable.
• General knowledge of industrial communication methods, networks, programming languages (javascript, VB, VB.Net, C#, .Net, C++), controls, PLCs, and/or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
• General industry knowledge including product movement, motion control, robotics, and other automation equipment.
• General knowledge of controls engineering concepts such as installation, wiring, and operability from prior experience.
• Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
• Experience with Windows-based PC industrial connectivity in a lab and automation environment.
• Ability to adapt to flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, or varying work patterns.
• Ability to be on-call and respond to customer emergencies.
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
• Ability to work safely in industrial environments by strictly following safety guidelines and protocols.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (approx. 23 kilograms).
• Maintain customer confidentiality.
• English language proficiency (written and oral).
• Experience in a related or high-tech industry preferred.

• Solid understanding of electro-mechanical solutions.
• Ability to conduct and troubleshoot onsite optimizations, perform trials, and conduct data analytics to improve solution performance.
• Ability to handle challenging customer situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills to establish relationships, communicate, influence, and present to various stakeholders.
• Strong presentation skills.
