About the Role
The Peer Tutor provides academic support to undergraduate students, offering course-specific tutoring to reinforce content, develop study strategies, and promote independent learning. This Federal Work Study position is for junior or senior-level students to serve as academic role models, gaining professional experience in teaching, communication, and leadership. The role strengthens subject-matter knowledge, develops communication and interpersonal skills, provides experience in teaching and mentoring, and encourages responsibility and time management.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions for Graphic Design 102
- Assist students with understanding course concepts, assignments, and exam preparation, encouraging independent problem-solving
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and confidentiality in all tutoring interactions
- Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing course materials and coordinating with students
- Accurately track tutoring hours and complete required Federal Work-Study documentation
- Communicate regularly with the tutoring coordinator or supervising staff regarding student progress, scheduling, and concerns
- Participate in required training sessions
- Uphold institutional academic integrity policies
Requirements
- Must be a junior, senior, or graduate student in the assigned program
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must have passed the class for which they are tutoring with a B or higher
