About the Role
This is the first dedicated finance hire, responsible for building the accounting and financial operations function from the ground up. The role involves hands-on accounting initially, with potential to build a team as the company scales. It requires setting up systems, controls, and reporting for responsible growth in a regulated space, and partnering with the CEO and Board on financial and compliance decisions. This is a high-trust, high-ownership position with significant influence.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a finance partner across the business workflow, supporting internal and external stakeholders.
- Own financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting for business offerings.
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including month-end close, GL, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations.
- Partner with Legal/Compliance on regulatory financial requirements.
- Track monthly, quarterly, and annual results, KPIs, and trends, providing actionable insights to leadership.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including a senior accounting or controllership role.
- Strong technical accounting foundation (US GAAP).
- Experience establishing or significantly scaling a finance function at an early-stage company.
- Ability to independently manage the accounting close process.
- Working knowledge of customer-fund safeguarding, AML/KYC financial controls, or regulatory capital requirements.
Skills
- Direct experience with CFTC-regulated entities, derivatives/exchanges, online gaming, or digital-asset accounting.
- Experience in a regulated financial environment (fintech, brokerage, exchange, gaming, banking, payments, or crypto).
- Public-company or audit (Big 4) background.
- Experience implementing ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite) and treasury tooling.
