About the Role
This role defines the logical blueprint for a new commercial data platform, encompassing data model ownership, schema governance, taxonomy structures, lineage documentation, and master data strategy. The incumbent will be the authority on data meaning and relationships, ensuring precise definition, change control governance, and traceability from source to published output for every entity, field, and relationship. Close collaboration with Data Engineers (pipeline builders) and Platform Engineers (physical infrastructure and delivery layer owners) is essential.
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end logical data models from raw source through transformation layers to client-facing outputs.
- Document full data lineage, ensuring every published metric is traceable to source fields with a complete audit trail.
- Own the canonical schema for all data products.
- Manage version control, schema evolution (new fields, deprecations, breaking changes), and consistency across multiple product lines.
- Implement metadata management and lineage tracking for auditing benchmarks, index values, and client reports from published output to source record.
- Define logical integration for multiple data sources (primary administration data, regulatory filings, client-uploaded portfolios), including entity matching rules, conflict resolution, and hierarchy management.
- Establish naming conventions, documentation standards, data dictionaries, and classification rules.
- Own the technical governance framework supporting broader data governance and anonymization committees.
- Partner with the Quantitative Director to define analytical requirements.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers on physical pipeline implementation.
- Work with Platform Engineers on infrastructure and delivery mechanism provisioning.
Requirements
- 8+ years in data architecture, data modeling, or master data management, ideally in financial services.
- Deep expertise in logical and physical data modeling, including dimensional modeling, Data Vault, and graph-based approaches.
- Strong understanding of master data management, entity resolution strategy, and taxonomy governance.
- Experience with metadata management and lineage tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, DataHub, or equivalent).
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- Experience designing data models for multi-product environments where a single source feeds multiple different outputs and consumer types.
- Understanding of data governance frameworks, change control processes, and classification systems.
- Experience in financial data, ideally loan portfolios, credit instruments, or fund structures.
- Familiarity with anonymization and aggregation requirements, understanding how model design supports privacy constraints.
- Understanding of benchmark governance or regulated data environments.
- Prior experience at a data vendor, fund administrator, or financial infrastructure provider.
