About the Role
Harris Beach Murtha’s Energy Industry Team is seeking an associate to support a broad range of regulatory and litigation matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with team members and clients on issues related to project development and siting, regulatory compliance, enforcement proceedings, and dispute resolution. Our clients span the energy sector and include electric generation and battery storage facility owners, transmission companies, utilities (electric, gas, and water), energy service companies, submetering providers, and large commercial energy users.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients with regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies
- Support project development by planning pre-application strategy, preparing and filing applications, and securing permits
- Conduct legal research on federal and state statutes, regulations, and agency orders, and draft memoranda
- Draft a variety of legal documents, including administrative petitions, agency comments, complaints and answers, memoranda of law, and discovery materials
Requirements
- 3+ years’ of general regulatory, administrative law, and/or litigation experience
- Energy experience preferred
- Admission to New York State Bar (or ability to waive in)
- Minimum annual billable requirement of 1800 hours

- Albany, NY: $130,000 – 175,000
- New York, NY: $148,000 - $185,000
