About the Role
This role supports Capital One's global growth by providing UK employment law advice to International and US HR and Employment legal teams. Responsibilities include advising existing businesses and integrating new workforces into the UK footprint. The position reports to the Senior Director, Employment and Benefits Law, with strong connections to a globally working group of employment lawyers.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on employment law compliance, including M&A preparation and outcomes.
- Advise on and draft hiring practices, employment contracts, terminations, benefits, workplace policies, and employee relations.
- Serve as a UK employment law expert, preparing and delivering training across the organization and HR functions.
- Support the management of employee disputes, including employment tribunal claims.
- Develop strong relationships with International HR teams to provide strategic support.
- Partner with HR risk and compliance stakeholders to identify, navigate, and report on HR-related risks.
- Advise on data protection issues, including employee data processing and Data Subject Access requests.
- Provide regulatory advice on EU AI, GDPR, and other regional requirements.
- Collaborate with external counsel to deliver legal advice and support.
- Build internal and external networks with Capital One Enterprise, external counsel, and in-house teams.
Requirements
- Very high level of subject matter expertise and ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate informed decision-making.
- High confidence to work with diverse stakeholders across businesses and geographies.
- Strong understanding of employment law in M&A contexts.
- Exceptional judgment, confident in decisions while knowing when to escalate.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and integrate with HR and senior leadership teams.
