About the Role
This senior engineering leadership role within the CTO organization is responsible for technical authority, engineering excellence, and electrical design governance across complex mission-critical data center programs in EMEA. It provides technical leadership for hyperscale, colocation, AI, and high-density compute deployments, acting as a senior subject matter expert for electrical engineering systems throughout the project lifecycle. The role ensures the technical quality, robustness, resilience, and compliance of electrical systems across the EMEA portfolio, aligning with Vantage product standards and operational objectives. It is critical for protecting the technical integrity of the Vantage platform, ensuring mission-critical electrical systems meet high standards of resilience, performance, safety, and operational reliability, especially during the transition to standardized, scalable, and product-led deployment models.
Responsibilities
- Act as senior electrical technical authority and design leader across the EMEA portfolio.
- Provide technical leadership for MV/LV distribution, substations, UPS systems, generators, and critical power infrastructure.
- Review and approve electrical designs and technical outputs, ensuring compliance with standards for resilience, reliability, and performance.
- Lead electrical engineering strategy and technical direction for mission-critical projects, aligning with industry standards (Uptime Institute Tier, TIA-942, IEC, BS).
- Develop and continuously improve technical reference designs and engineering standards, driving consistency and quality.
- Ensure electrical engineering outputs support constructability, commissioning readiness, operational acceptance, and lifecycle maintainability.
- Own and evolve electrical system architecture and design philosophy aligned with product platforms.
- Lead electrical engineering project teams across major programs, providing technical direction and escalation support.
- Oversee electrical engineering delivery from concept through commissioning and operational handover.
- Manage and technically lead external engineering consultants and design partners, ensuring compliance with Vantage standards.
- Provide SME leadership across mission-critical electrical systems including HV/MV/LV, UPS, generator, protection, and energy storage systems.
- Support complex engineering studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination analysis.
- Support Product and Mission Critical Engineering alignment for EMEA product platforms and standardization initiatives.
- Evaluate and support the adoption of innovative technologies for AI-ready infrastructure, high-density compute, liquid cooling, and renewable energy.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering performance, resilience, and energy efficiency.
- Support commercial activities including fee proposals, bids, technical submissions, and customer negotiations.
- Assist with project fee forecasting, engineering resource planning, and technical risk assessment.
- Represent Vantage at client meetings, technical forums, and industry events.
- Report on engineering performance, technical risk, resilience, and quality across the portfolio.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status with IET, CIBSE, or equivalent professional body.
- 10–15+ years’ experience delivering electrical engineering within mission-critical or large-scale infrastructure environments.
- Significant experience across hyperscale, colocation, AI, or high-availability data center platforms.
- Strong experience across hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or edge data center environments.
- Deep technical understanding of critical electrical infrastructure systems including HV/MV/LV systems, UPS systems, standby generation, substations, and mission-critical distribution architectures.
- Proven experience leading complex engineering programs and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong experience reviewing and approving technical engineering deliverables and consultant outputs.
- Proven capability operating as a senior technical authority within complex engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, resilience strategies, redundancy concepts, and operational risk management.
- Experience operating within consulting engineering, contractor, owner/operator, or integrated delivery environments.
- Experience supporting modular, prefabricated, or industrialized delivery models (Preferred).
- Experience with BIM-enabled engineering workflows and Revit-based coordination (Preferred).
- Experience supporting engineering activities across multiple international markets (Preferred).
- Experience supporting AI-ready infrastructure and liquid cooling deployments (Preferred).
- Understanding of product-led deployment models and standardized engineering platforms (Preferred).
- Experience contributing to technical standards, engineering governance frameworks, or engineering assurance programs (Preferred).
