About the Role

This role is with Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services, a Community Health Centre. To be eligible, applicants must be approved through the Agri-Canada Youth Employment and Skills program. All staff are expected to work on-site, maintain COVID-19 safety protocols, and may be required to travel to other sites. Complete COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory, and all positions contribute to COVID-19 response efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Propagate plants from seed, cuttings, layering, and divisions.
  • Maintain nutrient cycling systems using best practices in plant rotations.
  • Perform organic garden maintenance, including planting, weeding, and mulching.
  • Maintain and improve the three-cell composter system.
  • Monitor plant health and apply organic amendments and pest management.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Build capacity in record keeping, including inventory, production tracking, and produce weighing.
  • Track pollinator populations through seasonal counts of native bees and butterflies to measure biodiversity.

Requirements

  • Approved through the Agri-Canada Youth Employment and Skills program.
  • Complete COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
  • A criminal background check (Vulnerable Sector) will be conducted.

  • Ability to engage in gardening activities and work independently.
  • Ability to assess plant health and apply organic methods.
  • Familiarity with native plant species.
  • Willingness to learn about native plant species.
  • Enthusiasm to share gardening skills and knowledge with the community.
  • Willingness to collaborate with garden volunteers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals and groups.
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees, especially from low-income communities.
  • Commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppression perspectives.
  • Punctual.
  • Reliable.
  • Proactive communicator.
