About the Role

The Payment Operations Manager delivers operational excellence, modernization, and continuous improvement for the Payment Operations sub-Capability within Payment Services. This role leads a global team responsible for timely and accurate processing of payment transactions across Northern Trust's clearing channels, including payment lifecycle management and control. The manager ensures alignment of processes, technology, and people for high-quality, timely outcomes in a controlled environment, serving as the single global point of responsibility for performance, collaborating across functions and geographies to achieve enterprise objectives, and supporting modernization efforts, data stewardship, and resilient service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to define and communicate the sub-capability's vision and roadmap, aligning with enterprise strategy and client needs.
  • Champion modernization and innovation, identifying opportunities to enhance processes and drive productivity.
  • Partner across functions to ensure robust, scalable, and future-ready systems.
  • Deliver daily operations, ensuring a resilient and globally consistent operating model.
  • Maintain operational processes, controls, and oversight for timely and accurate service delivery.
  • Maintain a robust control environment aligned with enterprise risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies.
  • Comply with service level agreements, providing transparency on service delivery through performance metrics and issue resolution.
  • Provide incident response and crisis management for issues impacting the sub-capability.
  • Pursue process improvements that enhance client experience and reduce risk.
  • Structure, build, lead, and inspire a diverse, high-performing team.
  • Align workforce planning to Capability objectives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
  • Manage change effectively, ensuring engaged and resilient teams.
  • Maintain responsibility for the quality, completeness, timeliness, and accuracy of all data and outputs aligned with the sub-capability.
  • Adhere to data governance standards, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in the financial services industry with domain expertise in Payment Operations.
  • Proven experience in operations management within a complex, global organization.
  • Proven leadership guiding teams across different jurisdictions.
  • Proven experience operating within risk, compliance, and resiliency frameworks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes as an operations specialist.
