About the Role

As a member of the School Based Health Program team, the Licensed Practical Nurse performs required functions in support of Ryan Health's mission and goals.

Responsibilities

• Receive, interview, and register eligible students.
• Triage students by assessing chief complaint and recording vital signs.
• Prepare patients for examination, measure and record vital signs, perform urine dipstick tests, assist in physical examinations and diagnostic procedures, administer ordered medications and treatments, and execute primary care provider orders.
• Perform and record vision and audiometry screenings.
• Perform phlebotomy as requested.
• Assess patient understanding of diagnosis and therapeutic intervention.
• Practice accepted infection control measures per OSHA blood-borne Pathogens Standards and center policies.
• Maintain required logs, including refrigerator and urine dipstick logs.
• Review student immunization status.
• Provide counseling to students on health education and personal issues.
• Provide patients with treatment education materials.
• Make and record student appointments and referrals.
• Maintain provider appointment schedules.
• Maintain Ryan medical records and duplicate school clinic records.
• Provide follow-up for missed appointments and abnormal lab results.
• Escort students to appointments as needed.
• Process Ryan Health Center, NYS Department of Health, and NYC Department of Health forms.
• Process Ryan encounter forms by billable and non-billable categories.
• Input School Based Clinic patient registrations, immunization, and demographic information into the School Health Online data system daily.
• Input School Based Clinic encounter data into the School-Based Online data system daily.
• Submit completed weekly reports to the Program Supervisor by Tuesday.
• Retrieve specific reports from the School Health Online system as requested.
• Ensure Ryan school health records interface with Board of Education records.
• Maintain school clinic office and consumable medical supplies.
• Promote the School Clinic through routine student group presentations.
• Maintain contact with school administrators, staff, and teachers.
• Maintain contact with community agencies for patient/student benefit.
• Make necessary referrals to other facilities or Ryan.
• Work with parent groups associated with the school.
• Attend and participate in all required School Health Program Ryan Departmental meetings.
• Attend and participate in required outside meetings, health fairs, and other activities.
• Assist in other Ryan Clinics when requested.
• Immediately report problems or unusual occurrences to the supervisor.
• Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude with patients, supervisors, and colleagues.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate patient care.
• Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

Requirements

• One year of pediatric experience in an ambulatory setting (emergency room, clinic, or health center).
• Effective communication skills.
• Effective writing skills.
• Proven organizational skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to respond promptly to requests.
• Ability to anticipate organizational needs.
• Ability to maintain efficient office operations.
• Current New York State LPN license.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and employees.
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with clinical, clerical, and managerial staff.
• Report unusual occurrences or problems to the Supervisor School Health Program in a timely manner.
• Attend all required Center meetings.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Assist in pre-visit planning activities.
• Work collaboratively with others.
• Contribute input to improve outcomes.
• Seek and provide feedback tactfully and respectfully.
• Complete a 90-workday introductory period.
